- “Clelian Heights is an oasis for everyone who longs to see true beauty in the world and to exerience more love and compassion from humankind. Nestled in the majestic rolling hills of Pennsylvania, the natural beauty that surrounds the school is astonishing and makes you feel instantly at peace. Yet not even the view of the sky from the grounds as the deep reds and purples of glorious sunset clouds fade to reveal a starry night can compare to the beauty of what takes place inside the walls of the school.
There, patient and compassionate teachers come to share the value of education knowing full well that the challenges each of their students face will create difficulties that will sometimes seem insurmountable. There, the children bring their joy for life to everything they do. There also, the sisters of the Apostles of the Sacred heart of Jesus create a welcoming and loving home-away-from-home reminding us that God invites everyone into His kingdom.
If someone were to ask me why I choose to volunteer here year after year, I would say that there is something about the atmosphere of Clelian Heights that is special and unique. I’ve volunteered at other schools for children with special needs, but none of them have affected me as much as this place has. I almost hesitate to explain in words how much Clelian Heights and my experience here mean to me because they are so extra ordinary that whatever I say will be woefully inadequate. But there is just something about this school that draws me back every summer and makes me wish I could stay longer. I think that this is because even though I come to help the children improve their lives, the help the children give me to improve my own life is ten times more powerful. their simplistic and enthusiastic approach to life inspires me to appreciate the little blessings in my life and makes me want to leran how to truly enjoy every day of my life. I hope to put into action all that these children have taught me, yet the only thing I know for certain about the future is that Clelian Heights and all of its students and staff will always hold a special place in my heart.” Elaine
- “Coming to Clelian Heights has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I’ve had. I was overjoyed when I learned that I would be coming back for my second visit. After my firsst experience at Celian Heights I was excited to come back and see familar faces and I wan’t disappointed. They greeted me with their joyful smiles and I felt so welcomed. As I helped with their academic subjects, I was suprised to see how much the children had learned since my last visit and was happy to see that they hae excellent teaachers who really work hard and want the best for them. the excellent staff has made a big difference in the classrooms. It was clear for me to see that Clelian Heights was the perfect place for thsese exceptiona cstudents to learn and grow.
