Our School
Clelian Heights School program , for those ages 5- 21, is specially designed to provide a highly structured classroom environment which allows children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) to participate in educational and social activities presented within an environment that both challenges and supports their abilities, providing them the services needed to practice new skills and maximize their potential for independence within the community.
Each student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is developed to address strengths and abilities and provide a balance of activities throughout the school day that strengthen academic and life skills learning. Therapeutic activities are also included to aide both behavioral and physical health.
All of our classrooms are classified as Life Skills Support emphasizing learning in all areas that foster functional independence for future successes. Students are placed based on age and developmentally appropriate levels of learning.
Achieving personal happiness and success is accomplished by a cheerful, caring and positive learning environment in which the staff model appropriate learning behaviors and invite curiosity in fostering growth and confidence in each child. Happiness comes not only from personal success, but in being a part of the accomplishments of peers and encouraging them on to further successes.
Achieving future independence is sought through active participation and learning in the following areas:
- Functional Academics
- Communication & Processing Skills
- Independent Living Skills (Including Safety & Health Skills)
- Therapeutic Services
- Community-Based Instruction
- Transition to Work Skills
- Fine Arts
- Activities
